Cairns

It was great to head back to Cairns and hang out with family in-between commissions…I almost forgot about work for a brief moment soaking up everything the FNQ experience can offer! However I also had an exciting project lined up with the fabulous crew at Cairns & Hinterland Health Service at Cairns base hospital.

The commission entailed of artwork in the Respiratory and Renal Recovery ward in an area frequented by patients, staff and visitors. The chosen design encapsulated a serene vista of the esplanade and local surrounds, homely elements and incorporated the existing railing into the design.

The feedback was great throughout the application process and each day I remained in awe of the medical staff who do such an amazing job. As a contractor I witnessed similarities to working in the education system where staff are genuinely caring, professional and focused on positive outcomes. There was even a patient and carer who regularly checked the progress and were bitter sweet about going home before the mural was completed.

A big thanks goes our to the staff who saw this project come to fruition and I hope the artwork brightens everyones day in the ward.

Cairns

It was great to head to sunny Far North Queensland. I enjoyed time catching up with family in the tablelands and the timing worked out well to complete a 6.4m high mural at Edge Hill. I’ve painted a couple murals for the owner since 2016 and its great to see the block of shops filled with trendy tenants.

The design took on several incarnations all touching on the reef to the rainforest to the savannah way. It was a challenging wall with numerous surfaces, windows, conduit, doors and downpipes to work with.

Cairns

I escaped the cold winter briefly and headed to sunny North Queensland to visit family. While in town I was commissioned to do a large wall I had discussed with the owner a couple of years ago when I painted the stairwell. I explored several design concepts each using an illusion element and the owner chose the “funky” one. It was great to see this mural come to fruition and able to put the time in the wall deserved.

During this trip I delivered a canvas to its new home and as always no visit to cairns is complete without a paint session and a cold beverage with the talented and friendly locals, Mint & Wal.

Cairns

After completing murals in Emerald, Barcaldine, Aramac and Muttaburra I headed to Cairns. It was great to visit family and complete a large interior commission. I also had the pleasure of collaborating with Mint and Wally who demonstrated some super fresh Far North Queensland graffiti funk.
