Waterford West

It was great to kick off the new year with a mural at Waterford West State School. I was contacted by the schools P&C committee to work some magic with the Tuckshop and Uniform Shop which were well overdue for a coat of paint. I worked to a fairly specific brief which gave me a good guide for the concept and design of the artwork which includes some of the tuck shops signature dishes.

2022 Wrap Up

It’s been a roller coaster of a year to say the least. After enduring 2 years of border closures, a pandemic, several floods, ongoing recovery from an arm injury my year commenced one team member down with my dog in emergency surgery. However with Mac on the mend I was able to get things going once the border opened…back in business and fully booked in no time! We completed 2 trips to Central Western Q, a solo exhibition and also visited FNQ, Central Highlands, Western Downs, Scenic Rim amongst a whole bunch of local projects in Brisbane, Ipswich, Gold Coast and Tweed.

I took on a diverse range of projects at locations such as a hemp farm, an aged care facility, a campground, tuckshops, a library, a skateshop, two museums, a staircase, a cricket club, a restaurant, a shopping centre, a hot sauce shop and ten schools across Queensland.

I met several characters along the way and continued connections with friends afar. A big thanks to the following who made this year at The Sauce Studio a memorable one. I appreciate your support, opportunities, challenges and good times:

Southern Cross Hemp Nimbin, G-Spot Skate Murwillumbah, Oxenford State School, Alberton Hurricanes Cricket Club, Superior Care Wellington Point, Hilder Road State School The Gap, Aramac Race Club, Denison State School, Emerald North State School, Headspace Emerald, Alpha District Tourism, Australian Age of Dinosaur Museum Winton, Muttuburra Community Development, Highland Reserve State School, Aramac State School, Coomera Lodge Hotel, ChilliBOM South Tweed, Livingstone Christian College Ormeau, Bracken Ridge SS, Barcaldine Regional Council, Skytek Cairns, Charley’s Creek Chinchilla, Windaroo Valley SHS, Amberley District SS, 4275 Collective Canungra, Frankies Place Restaurant Shailer Park.

See you in 23!

Yamanto

It was great to complete murals at Amberley District State School recently. I was met by a real good bunch of students and staff who's energy and positivity is second to none. It was also great to again be in the position where I have worked on numerous projects with the principal at their previous posting.

There's more art in the pipeline so it will be great to continue splashing some more paint around. keep tuned for fresh work in the near future.

Canungra

Today wrapped up a project with the fabulous 4275 collective in Canungra. A solid core group of artists and makers painted a mural for the wallflower project in the CBD. The galah feature, floral stencils and geometric elements were painted almost entirely by participants. The design undertook several incarnations and we allowed for elements to evolve throughout the painting process. An impressive effort for first time mural artists and such a fantastic response from the public made this an enjoyable project to facilitate. Check out the Maker Space, Owl Wholefoods and Canungra Books and Art for a dose of good things!

Chinchilla

After completing projects in Alpha and Muttaburra in Central Western Queensland and a solo exhibition in Barcaldine it was great to head to Charley’s Creek Campground (previously called Clover Hill Ranch) located at the southern limit of the traditional lands of Baranggam country Chinchilla. This place really is a gem, a stones throw from the CBD with friendly hosts and caretakers it offers a relaxed atmosphere with acres of creek side camping. It’s been fantastic to return and compliment recent upgrades to facilities with new artwork at the camp kitchen and some signage. Making the most of its scenic location Charley’s Creek has undergone plenty of changes since I first visited and theres more exciting ventures on the horizon for the site. I very much feel privileged to be a part of the journey and transformation and looking forward to returning over summer.

Muttaburra

It’s been far too long since I’ve visited Muttaburra in the Centre of Queensland and great to see the town looking good. As usual there was plenty of friendly locals who made me feel very much welcomed. It was also a pleasure to add to the long list of public art in town with this mural at the Memorial Hall. Thanks to the Muttaburra Community Development Association and Queensland Remembers for funding and Barcaldine Regional Council for supporting the project.

Barcaldine

I came up with the working title “Full Circle” a while ago and it’s no suprise that covid and border closures have postponed plans. It began with the concept of my journey as a graffiti artist to exhibiting fine art in a gallery. I soon realised the notion of full circle adapts to many meanings and experiences both within ourselves and external elements amongst nature. I began responding full circle literally, the sphere that sustains us and the beauty provided amongst natural environment. For me this is something that puts life into perspective and is a reminder that we’re only here because of a string of events, circumstances in time and space.

Spending so much of my time travelling around painting in towns all over I have been lucky enough to see some epic landscapes and stay at memorable locations. I realised I had quite a few photos that were calling to be painted. Photos are a great way to capture an image however a painting is produced taking in the feeling that made the memory. Using these original photos as reference I produced a new body of work.

I had a venue in mind in Barcaldine, an old pub called The Globe that council had renovated. The buiding has many original heritage features and some cool modern touches, with a great exhibition space and facilities for functions. It was a short time later it clicked that of course Full Circle was destined to take place at the Globe! After working on 14 canvasses towards the show and booking the venue I called in to take another look keen to see if I was on track to fill the main gallery. I was not surprised to see there is exactly 14 perfectly spaced spots to hang work. More recently a circular viewing tower has been added to the building.

Searching beyond a curved horizon we decipher moments in time. exchanging energies. Connected by a sphere orbiting between day and night in an expanding universe. Just the seasons change our experiences often rotate Full Circle. See the gallery or purchase artwork direct from Sauce.

Alpha

I enjoyed the opportunity to collaborate with the amazing Lucy Senior and return to Alpha, Queensland for another mural. We tackled the challenge of creating a piece to reflect the existing artwork on a site of a Queensland Rail Goods Shed that will soon be decommissioned. We put in some solid sessions painting 8 humans, 5 birds, 2 dogs and a lizard amongst landscape and text elements. We enjoyed exchanging techniques, ideas and knowledge throughout the concept development and painting process. I often mention that I always enjoy the painting process and it was a pleasure to work alongside Lucy and have a yarn with some familiar faces around town. Thank to the Alpha District Tourism and Development AssociationInc. and the Regional Arts Development Fund for supporting this project.
