Aramac

I painted my first mural at Aramac State School in 2005/6 ? when Anglicare CQ toured me around the region. I have always enjoyed the adventure of painting in remote locations and pioneering public art, and were better than the centre of the universe! Aramac is a special place to me…it feels like authentic Wild West! Every visit I have seen familiar faces and met some characters along the way. The local support is amazing & I have likely done more art in the 4726 than anywhere else. For a locality of 372 people public art has been an integral platform to tell community stories with murals for a wide range of gov, non-gov organisations along with business and private clients commissioning a variety of projects.

The first mural has recently been covered by a newly built classroom and how fantastic to have the opportunity to return and paint the other side. The art on the D block wall facing the oval was an initiative by the student council who wanted to leave their mark. There was plenty of students wielding brushes, rollers and stencils to help out. 39 degree temps, gusty wind and storms won’t stop public art in Aramac. Thank you to the school staff who were just as enthusiastic to see this project come to fruition as the students.

Aramac

Returning to the centre of the universe, Aramac boasts stunning landscape, abundance of wildlife, a world class sculpture trail and friendly locals that love a yarn.

My services were engaged to pimp the Aramac Taxi *Not a real taxi, just a cool car that likes cruisin the 4726, good vibes and cold beer. Legend has it this this rally ready V6 was swapped for 2 sheep and escorted by alien spacecraft back to town whist doing 170km/h. I was more than happy to barter for an incredible vintage Foster’s sign for my collection to remember another awesome experience in Aramac.

I also completed finish line signage for the great folk at the Ballyneety Rodeo Club Inc at the Aramac Racecourse in 50 km/h gusty wind.

Aramac

Aramac is home to the White Bull & much more. I always feel an authentic kind of wild west vibe here, so many local characters sharing yarns and I enjoy absorbing the epic landscape that surrounds town.

It has been great to contribute to the brand new Aramac Motors. The shed has been transformed inside and out, decked out with the latest equipment to cater for all mechanical repairs. I had the pleasure of completing several hanpainted signs for the exterior, and a couple of murals. I always feel welcomed and relaxed in Aramac, although there was a deadline to meet, wind, piercing sun and rain I thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the new beginnings of Aramac Motors.

I also whipped up some new signs for the local White Bull Roadhouse whilst in the area.

Aramac

I was kept busy again in Aramac with a number of commissions including a 140m long fence. I always enjoy the super friendly people, inspiring outback landscape and abundance of native flora and fauna. The Lake Dunn Sculpture trail is well worth the visit and I also thoroughly enjoyed my time at White Station Sacred Healing Circle.

Thanks to Barcaldine Regional Council for the opportunity, Aaron Skin for the drone footage and video expertise and Blurgg for the contribution.

Aramac

No trip in Central Queensland is complete without a visit to Aramac. Known as “The Centre of the Universe” by some community members, I have had the idea for some time of creating this image, particularly since my first mural in Aramac was a galaxy inspired piece. I gave the town map a non-linear interpretation including items and attractions from surrounding areas arranged in the directions as you would see them standing directly in front of the wall. The other side was painted to serve as a backdrop for camp oven cooking which takes place regularly.

I also took on a couple of other commissions including a bedroom mural, a private bar area and a shipping container for Aramac Bowls Club.

Aramac

Having completed my tasks at Gayndah, Miriam Vale, Tannum Sands, Gladstone, Blackwater and Emerald, my last stop on this Central Queensland tour was Aramac. When I was completing a mural at the school last year I was informed my skills were required for an upcoming event amongst other things to be painted around the town. Winding up the trip with plenty of artwork raffled at Hogs and Dogs event alongside the Toyota Landcruiser, a Pro Hart inspired mural and many laughs with friends, locals and travellers alike. I can't wait to live it up in sunny Outback Queensland again, I can see why some know this place not just as the centre of Queensland but the centre of the Universe.

Aramac

Since the early 2000’s, I have visited Aramac on numerous tours Central Queensland. I returned in July of this year, when I saw four of my murals at the local school still looking good with the exception of my first creation which had seen better days. I called into Aramac State School on my way between Barcaldine and Muttaburra, and I was in lucky enough find a group of volunteers on the grounds and the Acting Principal in her office on a Saturday. Permission was granted to re-paint the deteriorated space themed mural so I jumped straight to it. Time was limited as I still had some way to travel that afternoon if I was to avoid driving through peak kangaroo traffic after sunset. It was ambitious attempting a 3D piece in a short timeframe with zero planning but the wall called for something special. Hot outback winds were gusting and the sun rays intensified throughout the afternoon. I was happy with the final outcome and the school is so satisfied they have made contact and offered to remunerate me for the artwork which I undertook without any commercial arrangement. The spontaneity of unplanned murals can mean they turn out to be the most memorable experiences.
